Dr. Dominic Hegarty

Co-Chair CRPS Cork 2017

Dr. Dominic Hegarty is a Consultant in Pain Management & Neuromodulation and WIP Ireland section chair. He completed his fellowship at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital London where he remains an Honorary Consultant.
He established and in presently Chair of the CRPS Interhospital Forum to facilitate the communication across healthcare professionals. The forum aims to accelerate the delivery of service to CRPS patients by increasing awareness and defining suitable treatment pathways.
He is a well recognized expert in the field of pain management and has published widely on pain matters.

Michael O’Brien

Michael is a Chartered Physiotherapist (M.I.S.C.P) working as a senior in the speciality of Upper limb Rehabilitation and Hand therapy.

Michael is a Chartered Physiotherapist (M.I.S.C.P) working as a senior in the speciality of Upper limb Rehabilitation and Hand therapy.
His Background includes a B.A in Sport, Health & Physical Education. Previously he was Communications officer for the Southern Branch of the I.S.C.P and was involved in the reconfiguration of Orthopaedic & Plastic services to the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital. He was a principal organiser and participator at the recent 3rd Annual Interdisciplinary Pain Symposium addressing early recognition and management of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Annette O ‘Driscoll

Senior Occupational Therapist

Annette O ‘Driscoll- Senior Occupational Therapist / Certified Hand Therapist in Plastics and Upper Limb Trauma.Works in Cork University Hospital. Member of IAHT, (Irish Association of Hand Therapists) and BAHT, (British Association of Hand Therapists).
With 2 other colleagues organize and run Level 1 BAHT and Level 11 BAHT Hand Therapy courses.

Aileen Wood

Senior Physiotherapist in Plastics

Aileen Wood works as a Senior Physiotherapist in Plastics with a Special Interest in Hands at Cork University Hospital. Aileen heads up a small team of physiotherapists working closely with the plastics and orthopaedic trauma teams. Member of IAHT (Irish Association of Hand Therapists) and ISCP (Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists).

Roberto Perez

Physical Therapist and Human Movement Scientist

Roberto Perez, trained as a physical therapist and human movement scientist, currently works as a professor for pain and palliative care research at the department of anesthesiology of the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. His fields of expertise concern chronic pain (in particular CRPS) and palliative care, whereby he focuses on clinical trial methodology, epidemiological, diagnostic and clinimetric aspects of pain and palliative care research. His research activities mainly focus on diagnosis and prognosis , development of measurement instruments and symptom control of chronic pain and terminally ill patients. He has contributed to the development of evidence based multidisciplinary treatment guidelines of CRPS and Cancer Pain, and participates in national and international research collaborations and consortia, and is a faculty member of the Special Interest Group “Complex Regional Pain Syndrome” of the IASP.

Joanne Goold

Chartered Physiotherapist (M.I.S.C.P) and Clinical Nutritionist (Dip I.O.N.)

Joanne Goold, Chartered Physiotherapist (M.I.S.C.P) and Clinical Nutritionist (Dip I.O.N.) works as a Senior Physiotherapist in Orthopaedics and Pain Management in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital Cork.
She also works in Croom Orthopaedic Hospital Co Limerick on the Limerick A.C.T. Pain Programme (L.A.P.P).
She has a special interest in the reduction/prevention of pain using nutritional interventions.

Aileen Ryan

MSc BSc (Hons) Curr Occ CLT

Aileen is currently the manager of the occupational therapy department in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital (SIVUH) and a certified lymphoedema therapist.

She has worked in acute hospitals in both the UK and Ireland in the areas of general medicine, orthopaedics, plastics, rheumatology chronic pain management and neuro. Aileen was involved in the establishing of a school of Occupational therapy in University College Cork (UCC); completed her MSc in evidence based practice there and also introduced the UCC Occupational therapy students to splinting in their undergraduate programme.

In addition to her management role, Aileen carries a clinical caseload in the areas of hand therapy (Plastics and Orthopaedic) and manual lymphatic drainage (hand trauma and oncology).
